Torres family became our host family about a year ago and had several college students from Japan this year.

Sari joined our internship program and stayed at Torres family for 6 weeks this summer (2008).

- How did you find out about the LCE host family program?
- Mr.Torres
- We found out by looking at flyers at our daughter’s elementary school. They sometimes hand out flyers and Lighthouse’s flyers were included.

- How do you enjoy hosting a student?
- Mr.Torres
- We enjoy hosting a student very much. It is an excellent experience for us and especially for our children. Behaviors, respectfulness, and disciplined attitudes, which Japanese people have, are good examples for kids.

- Please tell me what you enjoy the most as you host students.
- Mr.Torres
- Talking and chatting. Having conversations with students and exchanging cultural information like the way of thinking are fun. Knowing differences in students depending on locations in Japan they come from is also interesting.

- Did you have any problems when you hosted a student in the past? If so, how did you deal with a problem?
- Mr.Torres
- There was one student who didn’t spend time with us. It seemed that she just wanted to rent a room, so we decided to leave her alone and let her do what she wanted to do. But she had respect towards us and she was honest.

- How do you contact a student when it is urgent?
- Mr.Torres
- We usually know where they are because they tell us beforehand. We tell them our cellular phone number in case of emergency. Or we can always call Lighthouse when a problem occurs.

- Do you have to change your family schedule when you host a student?
- Mr.Torres
- No, because we think that a student is part of our family and they are always welcome to participate anytime if we have something to do.

- How do you spend time with a student on weekdays and weekends?
- Mr.Torres
- Talking after dinner, and we take them to sport events when we can.

- Overall, how are you satisfied with our program as a host family?
- Mr.Torres
- If we have to give a rating between 0 and 10, it is 11. It is a great experience and we think that it is well-organized.
